Bolton Labour expresses concerns over potential Wilko store closures in a joint letter to CEO

Representatives from Bolton Labour Party, including Bolton South East MP, Yasmin Qureshi, and Leader of Bolton Council, Nicholas Peel, have expressed their concerns over the news of Wilko entering into administration and the potential closure of its 400 stores.

With two major stores in Bolton, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidates for Bolton West and Bolton North East were keen to ensure that staff will be supported and kept up to date with plans for Wilko’s future.

Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton North East, Kirith Entwistle said “Any closure of Wilko stores in Bolton would be a bitter blow for the hard-working, loyal members of Wilko staff and for our local economy. I want to ensure workers are supported as much as possible”

Phil Brickell, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Bolton West added “Wilko is a large local employer, and I really hope every effort is made to secure a solution to avert job losses and store closures.”

Wilko announced last week that it was going into administration, putting 12,500 jobs at risk, and a deal is yet to be reached.
