Off-road motorbikes
Off-road bikes have been causing trouble for residents in Bolton North East

In Breightmet, in Astley Bridge and in Harwood the issue of off-road bikes comes up frequently on the doorstep. They’re noisy, they damage our public spaces, and they’re often by used by unlicensed riders without tax or insurance.

Working with the community I developed a plan of action to tackle this issue and I’ve been building support for it through a petition. Thank you to all who have signed it so far, I hope you will continue to share it and encourage others to add their names.

Here are the key points of Bolton Labour’s clear plan to tackle the issue:

We have made good progress with the first point. Bolton Police have said publicly that the specialist bike unit could be sent to Bolton in the summer. I’m going to keep pushing for it to happen sooner, as will our Bolton Labour councillors.

We continue to see new examples of hundreds, or even thousands of pounds worth of damage done to local playing fields. Without proper action to address the issue I’m concerned that local groups will be denied access to these facilities due to the expense and local young people will miss out on the chance to play organised sports.

The campaign is still very much underway so please add your name to my petition and keep contacting me with your stories and experiences.
